UK and Rwanda sign new agreement on deportation of illegal migrants

The United Kingdom has signed a new version of the migration agreement with Rwanda in an attempt to effectively solve the migration problem.

Like the previous one, the new agreement concerns the sending of migrants who entered the UK illegally to seek asylum to an African state. The main difference is that Rwanda will not return migrants to their home countries, where they risk persecution.

Three weeks ago, the UK Supreme Court rejected the previous version of the treaty with Rwanda, declaring it illegal. The new option, apparently, will finally solve the refugee problem.

The new agreement, signed by Home Secretary James Cleverley, will create an oversight committee to which confidential complaints can be lodged, and a new appeals body, which will include judges from around the world. James Cleverly said that he hopes for the practical implementation of the agreement in the coming months, since it took into account all the warnings of the Supreme Court.

The scheme to export illegal migrants to Rwanda, according to the government, should deter seekers of a better life from the dangerous journey across the English Channel by boat and reduce migration pressure on Britain. For cooperation, Rwanda will receive funding to house deported people.

The UK faced an unprecedented influx of migrants after Brexit. Last year alone, 46,000 people entered the country via the English Channel using rubber boats. This year the number of illegal immigrants has already exceeded 34 thousand people.
