Xi Jinping arrived in San Francisco for the APEC summit, on the sidelines of which the leaders of the United States and China will meet

During the APEC summit in San Francisco, a meeting between Xi Jinping and Joe Biden will take place; the leaders of the two countries plan to improve their rather deteriorated bilateral relations.

This is Chinese President Xi Jinping’s first trip to the United States in six years and his second meeting with the US president in three years. Experts have high hopes for it, believing that the meeting of the two leaders will help stabilize Sino-American relations and give new impetus to the recovery of the global economy.

Joe Biden expects the negotiations to be extensive and touch on many pressing topics – wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, Taiwan, election interference. The American president hopes to improve bilateral relations, in particular, to resume contacts between the military departments of the two countries, interrupted after the high-profile visit of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. Joe Biden clarified:

“Returning to normal communication is being able to pick up the phone and talk to each other in times of crisis. Having confidence that our military is still in contact with each other. We are not trying to separate ourselves from China, as I said. We We’re trying to change relationships for the better.”

Bilateral meeting of US and Chinese leaders will take place during the APEC summit, uniting not states, but economies. Therefore, Hong Kong and Taiwan were allowed to participate in it as independent entities. The situation around the latter, experts say, is of particular concern to Washington – the United States does not want to allow a new conflict to escalate against the backdrop of the other two.

The United States did not plan to hold any meetings with Russian representatives at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco. writes “European Pravda” citing US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller: “I am not aware of any planned meetings between us and the Russian government within APEC.” The APEC summit will take place this week in San Francisco. Russia will be represented there by a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister.
