How much fruit should you eat every day?


Fruits are known for their nutrients. But besides this, they have a high content of sugars and carbohydrates. Therefore, it is very important that their consumption is moderate.

For the average person, the upper recommended limit is four pieces of fruit per day. Some professional athletes can naturally eat more than four, but for the rest of the population this can have negative effects. There is a lot of conflicting information about fruits and nutrition.

How much fruit should you eat daily, and when should you set limits? Accredited nutritionists say there is a lot of confusion about which foods are high in sugar and which should be cut. Worry about what fruits contain too much fructose, often causing people to eliminate them from their dietgoing on diets, which can have very detrimental effects on their long-term health.

Fruit contains natural sugar, so eating too much of it is much less likely to lead to obesity or chronic disease than eating foods that have added processed sugar.

Besides fruits are rich in nutrients, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients, which help us stay healthy and protect us from various risks.

The “trick” to eating well seems to lie in what fruits we choose to eat every day. By refusing to consume fruit, we deprive the body of minerals and vitamins necessary for proper functioning. In general, we should aim to eat two servings of fruit per day. Each serving should be a combination of:

  • 1 medium apple, banana, orange or pear
  • 2 small apricots, kiwi or plums
  • 1 cup berries or grapes, or chopped fruit salad.

Fruits are rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals in the body, thereby preventing serious diseases. It is very important to regulate your diet without going to extremes.
