Eight Greeks were trapped in the monastery of Saint Porphyry in Gaza

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been notified of the detention in Gaza of eight Greeks remaining in the monastery of St. Porphyry, which recently came under Israeli fire.

According to information from diplomatic sources, the Foreign Ministry, through the Consulate General in Jerusalem, maintains constant contact with the Greeks remaining in the monastery.

The names of the eight Greeks were passed on to both Israeli and Egyptian authorities.

According to sources, the Foreign Ministry continues to remain in standby mode. When the Rafah crossing is reopened and Greek citizens can enter, they will be transferred to Egypt if they wish, the sources said.

The Monastery of Saint Porphyry is the oldest active church in the Palestinian enclave. It is located in the historical quarter of old Gaza and, according to legend, contains the relics of St. Porphyry, who was the bishop of Gaza in the 5th century.

The number of Palestinians killed as a result of Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip has risen to 10.3 thousand, Al Arabiya TV channel reported, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health. According to the department, the number of victims is currently at least 10,328. A day earlier, the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera claimed that since October 7, the death toll in the enclave had reached 10,022, including at least 4,104 children.
