Deputy Head of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation Alexey Vovchenko reported that more than half of the Russian military personnel who participated in the war in Ukraine lost limbs during the fighting:
“About 54% of all those examined are recognized as disabled with amputation of limbs. This is really such a glaring problem, it’s a lot. Among civilian disabled people with amputations, of course, we don’t have such a percentage. Because the main causes of disability associated with amputation of limbs are diabetes, these are senile disorders, these are vascular abnormalities, these are elderly people… Here, of course, these are young people.”
Vovchenko said this during his speech at the Federation Council, reports Interfax. The exact data on the number is not specified, the Air Force notes, however, according to Deputy Head of the Ministry of Labor Vovchenko, 20% of the military lost their upper limbs, and 80% were left without legs.
Back at the end of June, the Russian Ministry of Defense predicted that approximately 30% of the Russian military in Ukraine would become people with disabilities, and they would need high-tech treatment, in particular, prosthetics. Before the open invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, 6-7 thousand Russians annually received prosthetic arms, and about 100 thousand legs.
Previously, Sky News claimed that at least 25 thousand Ukrainian soldiers have lost limbs since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
