The owner of a hotel in Mykonos solved the problem with sewage very simply – carefully disguising the pipe in stones, he poured them directly into the sea.
Businessman arrested informs newsbeast.gr, he will be tried for serious crimes: against human health and for causing damage to the environment. Lawyer Stelios Garipis says:
“Some bad businessmen, instead of sending wastewater to a biostation and paying for tankers, send it to sea for free.”
He describes the situation that sometimes prevails in the coastal areas of the island, unable to cope with the mass of tourists attracted by them. This case was opened by the All For Blue organization and its head Katerina Topuzoglu. For bathers in the deep blue waters of Agia Anna Kalafati in Mykonos, a 100-meter pipe, skillfully laid in the rocks to discharge sewage into clear waters, does not add to the attractiveness of this vacation spot at all. Mr Garipis says:
“The Mykonos Port Authority immediately launched an investigation. She discovered that the biological wastewater of the hotel complex and restaurant on the beach of Agia Anna is passing through this pipeline. Then followed the process of self-examination. The owner has been arrested. Even today, bathers bathe normally. There are no restrictions from the lifeguards. I think that some kind of measurement was taken to check if the water is suitable for bathing.”
The business owner has been arrested and is expected to be transferred to Syros where he will be tried on charges of very serious crimes.
