Fire battle continues in Greece, with 111 fires raging across the country


New outbreaks of fires on Friday in Parnit, Evros, Rhodopes, Boeotia. Fire services continue to fight 111 simultaneous fires in Greece.

Over the past day, 59 new forest fires have broken out, the vigilance of fire services helped to eliminate most of them in the initial stage. Briefly about the main ones for Friday, August 26:

  1. In Parnit, the powerful forces in action are facing fires, mostly on the southwest side, near the Clan Castle.
  2. In Evros, most outbreaks occurred in Dadia, Aysimi and Soufli.
  3. In Rhodopi, intense lunchtime fires created a front in the wider region of Leptokaria. At 15:25 a message was sent to number 112 about the evacuation of the residents of the area.
  4. Outbreaks are being eliminated in the areas of Saltsa, Steyri and Kyriaki in Boeotia, at the gates of Trikala and in Vitoli Makrakomi (Fthiotida).
  5. 51 firefighters with 2 teams of foot units and 20 vehicles are working in various fire locations in the Sahara, Pyrgos, Pinio and Andravida districts of Ilia prefecture.
  6. The fire in Elliniko Argolis has 28 firefighters with 3 teams of pedestrian squads, 5 vehicles and 2 A/Fs.
  7. The fire broke out in the Wari district shortly after 6:00 am on Saturday. According to information, the fire was caused by a lightning strike. Powerful fire brigades left the scene. According to information, 30 firefighters on 15 vehicles took part in the extinguishing.
  8. The fire that broke out in Lagio Laconia has been contained.

Firefighters, soldiers, volunteers and ordinary citizens selflessly fight in the fight against fires. Assistance in extinguishing is provided by the European Civil Protection Mechanism with the participation of the forces of Cyprus (2 aircraft operating in Dadia Evros and 31 firefighters in the Fili region in Attica), Croatia (1 aircraft in Dadia Evros), Germany (2 aircraft in the Fili region in Attica), Sweden (2 aircraft in the Fili region of Attica), Czech Republic (1 helicopter in Boeotia), Romania (51 firefighters with 10 vehicles operating in the Sicorrah and Sappes PE Evros areas), Bulgaria (36 firefighters with 4 vehicles operating in the area of ​​Koila Evros), Slovakia (39 firefighters with 8 vehicles working in the area of ​​Filis in Attica). Assistance is also provided by the pre-installation program – from France (16 firefighters with 3 vehicles operating in the Fili region of Attica), through an interstate agreement from Albania (46 firefighters with 5 vehicles operating in the Dadia forest).

Assistance is provided by a large number of volunteer firefighters, the forces of the General Staff of National Defense and the Greek police, as well as water tanks and equipment from the regions.
