The 69-year-old woman and her accomplices managed to fraudulently extort more than 100,000 euros from the residents of Imatia, Pella and Kozani.
Telephone scammers called citizens, posing as doctors, immediately frightened the elderly with a statement that their relatives had been injured in an accident. The swindlers demanded large sums of money, allegedly necessary for an immediate operation and the salvation of their loved ones.
In this regard, a Bulgarian citizen was arrested the day before yesterday for receiving an amount of 19,830 euros from a 67-year-old citizen. Earlier that day, the man received a call from an accomplice of the detainee, posing as a doctor, and agreed with the victim to receive money from him, allegedly for the operation of a wounded relative.
The money was returned to the man, and during a search in the house of the criminal, 3,340 euros and a mobile phone were found and confiscated. As established by further investigation, over the past two months, four more citizens were deceived in the same way in the regions of Imatia, Pella and Kozani. From them, the scammers received large sums of money, gold coins, jewelry for a total of 81,520 euros.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish their possible involvement in similar crimes. At the same time, the detained woman with the case filed against her will be taken to the Berea District Court.
