Halkidiki: Elderly couple brutally beaten on the beach


Incidents like this seem to be becoming “the norm”: an elderly couple, aged 74 and 70, is beaten for being on the beach near a beach bar.

Just yesterday, our publication talked about a similar incident in Crete: hotel security guard beat a man for walking across the beach. And now people of advanced age, who cannot defend themselves, have been attacked.

An unprecedented incident occurred in one of the beach bars in Halkidiki. According to the complaint of the affected spouses, they were forbidden to swim on Kastamonitis beach. According to the woman, the couple were two meters from the sun loungers, but an employee of the beach bar approached them and began to swear, while threatening: “I’ll drown you,” “I’ll leave you.”

He didn’t stop there. writes CNN Greece, the threats turned out to be just a “warm-up” before the main actions. Together with his wife (!) who came to his aid, the man began to beat the elderly. The forces were clearly unequal. One of the swimmers called the emergency services 911. When the 74-year-old man was taken away by an ambulance, he writhed and moaned in pain.

The doctor at the medical facility where the man was taken was shocked by the severity of the beatings, his wife says, and reports that her husband had to undergo knee surgery.

Later Greek police published disclosure statement elderly couple, who came to the beach with their towel and were beaten by the beach bar manager. In him says:

“Regarding the incident that was recently reproduced in press reports regarding the attack by the manager of a beach shop in the Halkidiki area on an elderly couple, it is clarified that this happened a year ago in June 2022. For the attack at one time were three persons were detained, against whom a criminal case was initiated, and they were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office. The police authorities of Greece, strictly observing the law and always acting on its basis, do not allow anyone to break the law. On Greek territory there are lawsprotecting the rights of citizens and visitors and punishing those who question them and go beyond the rule of law.”
