200 illegal immigrants found on the bridge across the border river in Evros

More than 200 refugees and migrants were found crossing a bridge on the Arda River in Evros on Friday morning. Most of them are women with babies in their arms, children, pregnant women, children with Down syndrome, there is also a person with epilepsy and an adult with artificial limbs.

According to the state broadcaster ERT, most of them claim to be of Syrian, Iraqi and Yezidi origin. They reported that they had been going without water and food for 3-4 days.

According to ERT, they were provided with basic necessities, and an ambulance came to fetch vulnerable people in need of medical care.

They are taken by bus to the Himoniou Refugee Center for initial registration and, depending on the capacity of the Filakio Center, they will be transported there to have their details identified.

In parallel, on Friday, the Greek Coast Guard carried out a rescue operation off the coast of Pylos (southern Peloponnese), as a result of which 49 people were rescued stranded on a cargo ship. Flying the flag of Belize, it was 109 nautical miles southwest of Pylos.

A 21-year-old woman in need of medical attention and her partner were flown to Kalamata by a Hellenic Navy helicopter, while the other 47 people were transferred to a Coast Guard vessel.

PS It seems that outrage over the tragedy with shipwreck at Pylos with hundreds of drowned migrants and constant statements of repulsion softened Greece’s policy on migration a little. Türkiye took advantage of this and literally pushed out the most problematic “passengers” in Greece.
