Ukrainian women, children and pensioners are returning home from abroad

More and more refugees are returning to Ukraine. In July, more than 3.8 million people crossed the Ukrainian border with European countries and Moldova, significantly exceeding the number of people leaving the country.

Most Ukrainian refugees want and plan to return home. The number of returnees is constantly increasing, according to data from the Ministry of Reintegration, citing information from the State Border Service. In July, for example, there were 600,000 more migrants than in June. Ukrainian border guards attribute this to the end of the school year.

Earlier, our publication wrote that after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 2.8 million able-bodied women left the country and now live abroad. Their return back will give the country a chance to restore the ruined economy.

In addition, after the start of the invasion, the demographic situation in the country became even worse than before the war, when the Ukrainian birth rate was estimated at 1.2 and was considered one of the worst indicators in Europe.

And in the meantime EU population increased by nearly 2 million. The influx of Ukrainian refugees also contributed to this, according to a report from the Statistical Office. EU (Eurostat). In 2022, the population of the European Union was 448.4 million, up from 446.7 million a year earlier. At the same time, a significant share of the growth was provided by the massive influx of displaced persons from Ukraine, that is, the natural decline was compensated for by immigration.
