Four Nigerians went to Europe "perched" near the helm of a cargo ship

A two-week journey in the ocean for four Nigerians was a living hell, besides, they sailed not at all where they wanted …

Fourteen days Nigerian illegal immigrants spent in a tiny space near the ship’s steering wheel. They went to the coveted Europe, and sailed … to Brazil. The last days were especially painful – the travelers ran out of water and food. To survive, they drank their own urine and sea water, tells “Country”, referring to the Western media.

In total, the migrants covered 5600 km, but ended up on the other side of the Atlantic, in Brazil. One of them, a 38-year-old man with the meaningful name Senkgad (translated as “thanks to God”) says, already in a church shelter in São Paulo:

“It was a terrible experience for me.”

His companion agrees:

“It wasn’t easy on board. I was shaking, I was scared.”

The travelers ran out of food on the tenth day. Roman Ebimene Friday, 35, a third fellow traveler, described how they tied themselves to a fishing net to keep from falling into the water.

The extreme journey ended in the port of Vitoria, the Brazilian police removed the men from the ship’s steering wheel. Two, at their request, were returned to their homeland, and two more applied for asylum in Brazil. Friday hopefully says:

“I pray that the Brazilian government will take pity on me.”

This trip is not his first, he has repeatedly tried to escape from Nigeria by ship due to economic difficulties, political instability and crime. However, all trips ended in failure, he was arrested by the country’s authorities.

The Nigerians’ journey began on June 27 in Lagos on the Ken Wave. Three of them were familiar, and the fourth saw his fellow travelers already on the steering wheel. While swimming, they were afraid that the ship’s crew would notice them and throw them into the water, so they tried to be as quiet and inconspicuous as possible.
