Nearly 100 migrants rescued off Greek coast

The Coast Guard rescued about a hundred immigrants in boats off the coast of Greece.

According to the Coast Guard, 71 migrants were rescued last Friday off the coast of Karpathos Island in the Aegean Sea. Another 27 people were rescued near Rhodes. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling migrants to Europe.

All rescued migrants were taken to the camp for registration on the island of Kos. Recall that smugglers regularly transport illegal immigrants by dangerous sea route from Turkey and North Africa to the European Union member countries – Greece, Cyprus and Italy.

Until now, mystery surrounds the exact circumstances shipwreck of a ship with migrants on board, which occurred early in the morning in June 2023 in international waters off Pylos: the bodies of 78 dead were found, 104 people were rescued.
