In connection with the onset of another wave of heat and an increase in air temperature to extreme values, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends residents and visitors to Greece:
- Stay in shady and cool places, away from crowds, avoid heavy physical exertion, use fans and air conditioners.
- Avoid sunbathing, jogging and walking under the scorching sun, use a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself, choose light-colored clothes from mostly natural fabrics – they help sweat evaporate and allow the skin to cool a little.
- Think over the diet – choose light meals, limiting fats and giving preference to vegetables and fruits.
- Drink plenty of water, the best thirst quencher is plain water and fruit juices, avoid alcoholic beverages.
- Small children, the elderly and those with chronic diseases require special attention – they must be protected from high temperatures.
Meteorologists warn that from Thursday July 20 comes the second July heat wave: The temperature will rise and reach 42-43°C. On weekends, mercury thermometers will reach 44°C, it is possible that in some regions the air will heat up to 45°C, writes CNN Greece.
