Safety Rules for Dogs and… Their Owners

It will be about the safety of a pet when he is left at home alone and minimizing the risks to your home.

How safe is the loneliness of a dog in the house, both for her health and for the home itself? In your absence, the risks are associated not only with damage to furniture or failure of electrical appliances, but also with the health of your pet, with which any trouble can happen.

You work, go shopping, meet friends or decide to dine in a restaurant – the presence of a dog is far from possible everywhere, and your pet remains the sovereign owner of the apartment for some time, “on guard”.

Let’s start with what he can do in your absence, simply bored. Take care of the safety of important things for you in advance – place them higher or put them in a lockable tray. Seeing the gadget left on the coffee table, the dog at some point wants to get to know him better. And do not take pleasure in the thought that she is well trained and never allows herself this in your presence. Left alone, your pet is bored, nervous, and in this state he “distracts” himself in ways available to him.

In addition to the fact that an expensive thing can be damaged, it is also unsafe for the dog. For example, wires are a great danger – animals often like to gnaw them. As a result, an electrical appliance may fall or simply fail, and your pet will receive an electric shock.

It is safer for the animal, but hardly pleasant for the owner, when alone the dog gnaws rugs or furniture, tears up the upholstery of a chair or a bedspread on a bed. From all such troubles there are effective ways to protect:

  • leave suitable toys for your pet – he will have something to distract himself from loneliness and something to chew on;
  • leave the radio on, its sounds will give the dog a sense of the presence of someone in the house and relieve the feeling of “abandonment”;
  • if this option is acceptable for you, purchase a special dog cage – you will be sure of the safety of the animal and the safety of things. By the way, many dogs really like their “own home”;
  • if the cage option doesn’t suit you, limit the space in another way – by locking the dog in one of the rooms, minimizing the risks.

Pay special attention to the windows, regardless of the floor where the apartment is located. When leaving, make sure that they are well closed so that the dog will not pass through them. Do not leave your pet unattended on the balcony, in the yard or in the garden. Not only is there a danger that he will be able to get out, but the weather can suddenly turn bad – it will rain, it will become too hot or a storm will rise.

Talk to your neighbors: let them know that you have a dog and ask them to call you if they notice anything out of the ordinary, or help your pet if necessary, advises newsbeast.gr.

And these are tips for those whose pets are strongly against the owners leaving the house and are loudly indignant throughout the entire period of their absence, which creates huge problems in relations with neighbors and not only…
