A 3.5-year-old child is hospitalized after being bitten by a snake in the courtyard of a tavern in Trikala. What to do if you or loved ones are bitten by a snake?
The injured boy was playing in the outdoor dining area of the establishment when he was unexpectedly attacked by a snake. The child was immediately taken to the hospital, where his condition is constantly monitored by doctors, writes newsbeast.gr.
This year, experts note a surge in snake attacks on people in Trikala and Larissa. Almost every day, bitten people turn to medical institutions. Dimitris Babalis, Director of the Emergency Department at Larisa General Hospital, says:
“Indeed, there has been a surge in snake numbers this year, probably an increase in their population – it was a spring with a lot of rain.”
He explains that precautions must be taken, first of all, to mow the tall grass in most areas. “And advises what to do if you are bitten by a snake:
“The main thing is that if the victims saw a snake, they should describe it to us. And most importantly, you don’t need to do anything, just contact a medical facility immediately. Everything else that people do based on rumors and incompetent advice is more dangerous than the snake bite itself. .. A snake bite, unless, of course, a person has an allergy, lasts for several hours and days. First of all, you need to wash the bite site, lubricate it with an antiseptic, and then contact a medical facility.”
