EasyJet: 19 passengers were dropped off the plane because they were…too heavy

19 passengers returning to Liverpool from Lanzarote on an EasyJet flight were forced off the plane due to overweight and bad weather conditions.

At one point, passengers were told that the plane was “too heavy to take off”. Departure time from Aretife Airport in Lanzarote, the fourth largest Canary Island in the Atlantic, was scheduled for 21:45. However, he remained on the ground until almost 11:30 p.m., landing at Liverpool John Lennon Airport around 3:00 a.m.

A passenger filmed a video in which the pilot can be heard saying, “Thank you to everyone on board for choosing our airline! However, there is an overbalance. Combined with the rather short runway and the current adverse conditions here in Lanzarote, this means that the plane is too heavy to take off“. The pilot explained to the passengers that “with safety as the top priority, under the current weather conditions and wind direction, the aircraft would not be able to take off.”

The pilot then noted that he had spoken to the task force and “the only way to solve the problem is to ‘make the plane a little lighter’.”

That is why he asked 20 volunteers did not fly to Liverpool, but as a “penalty” gave each 500 euros. However, on the recording, passengers can be heard saying they want to go home. According to EasyJet’s flight tracking system, the delay was due to bad weather in Lanzarote.
