Residents of Attica and Thessaloniki preferred the beach to vote

In the second round of elections in Greece, a reduced activity of the electorate was noted.

On June 25, Sunday, the day of the 2023 election, many would rather lie on the beach than crowd the polling lines. A fine day and high air temperature inspired a relaxed mood. The beaches in both Attica and Thessaloniki were filled with vacationers in the morning.

The Greeks, apparently already rather tired “from all this politics, inflation and tension,” waved their hand at everything and simply decided to take a break. Judging by official data, the majority simply did not go to vote. According to the data announced by the authorities, by 17:00, participation in the elections on June 25 amounted to 40.77%. By 16:30, 3,564,116 citizens had voted, while voter turnout was recorded eight percentage points lower than in the first round, when by the same time it was 48.76%.
