Public transport traffic in Athens on Easter weekend


Thousands of residents of the Greek capital left Athens and went on Easter trips. But many stayed at home. Transport services in Athens have been adapted for the Easter long weekend.

Athens public transport services adapted for the Greek Orthodox Easter long weekend, from Good Friday to the Wednesday after Easter.

Buses, trolleybuses

Easter Sunday (5 May): All transport services operate according to the holiday schedule.

Easter Monday (6 May): vehicles that will follow the holiday schedule.

Easter Tuesday (7 May): Transport will operate on a Sunday and public holiday schedule.

Easter Wednesday (8 May): All services will operate on Saturday timetables.

Depending on demand, buses and trains will be added on the Athens Metro lines serving the international airport, the KTEL intercity bus stations on Kifissos and Lyossion avenues, and the port of Piraeus.

Metro and tram

Athens metro lines 1, 2 and 3, as well as the tram, will follow a holiday schedule from Holy Saturday until the Wednesday after Easter – the last trains will depart at the following times for each line:

Metro line 1 (Piraeus-Kifissia and Kifissia-Piraeus) at 22:20.

Metro line 2, from Antoupoli at 22:46 and from Elliniko at 22:43.

Metro line 3, from Doukissis Plakentias at 22:42 and from Teatro Dimotiko (Piraeus) at 22:39.

Metro from Syntagma station in all directions, at 23:00.

From the airport at 22:22 and from Teatro Dimotiko (Piraeus) to the airport at 21:43.

Tram number 6 from Picrodaphne at 22:00 and from Syntagma at 22:45.

Tram number 7 from Kalamaki at 22:07 and from Agia Triada (Piraeus) at 22:43.

Tram routes 6 and 7 (change at Picrodafni): from Syntagma to Kalamaki at 22:30 and from Kalamaki to Syntagma at 21:52. From Agia Triada to Syntagma at 21:28 and from Agia Triada to Syntagma at 21:30.

Service intervals today, Easter Sunday:

Line 1 metro: routes every 12.5 minutes from 6:00 to 23:00, every 15 minutes the rest of the time.
Metro line 2: routes every 15 minutes.
Metro line 3: routes every 12 minutes (every 36 minutes on the airport route).
Tram: routes every 15 minutes.
