On Bulgarian beaches… dead cows

On the coast of Bulgaria, sea waves threw the carcasses of cows. The reasons are still unknown – either some ship “lost” the animals being transported, or they were carried away by the water stream from the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

In the last six days, three dead cows have been found on the seashore in different places. Rosen Despov, mayor of Chernomorets, a small resort village in the south Bulgaria, speaks:

“A dead animal was found on the shore. It was removed by the efforts of the municipality and the department of ecology. The carcass was handed over to the processing plant. There are no problems.”

The authorities argue that the “finds” are unlikely to indicate an environmental catastrophe in Ukraine. However, it is difficult to explain the incidents. Despov suggests:

“The most logical thing is that the animals entered the seas from a ship.”

Elena Taneva from Euronews Bulgaria speaks:

“The Food Safety Agency explained that animals do not have ear tags, as the rules suggest. EU. The department of maritime transport clarified that at the moment there is no data on the crash of a ship with animals, but they are monitoring the situation with increased attention.”

In the meantime, special teams are inspecting the area where they found the animal and putting things in order on the coastal strip. The representative of the Department of Ecology Zornitsa Dimitrova notes:

“The beach will be sanitized and hopefully this is the last animal to make it to our shore.”

At the moment, there is no evidence of coastal pollution, and ships at sea are monitoring for the presence of carcasses of dead animals in the water.
