Room-service: the most unusual room orders

If you thought that room service only involves the delivery of food to the hotel room, then you are mistaken. It can be anything, and hotels.com hotel booking service talks about the most unusual wishes of the guests.

In 40% of hotels, Room-service is hugely popular, and hotels are trying to expand their offerings to satisfy any request from guests – from a bowl of dog food to melted ice cream. Among the strangest – boiled bottled water, pufferfish, bison. And hotels can provide the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra directly to the room – nothing is impossible, everything is for customer satisfaction, tells euronews.

Meanwhile, the service is gaining momentum in popularity, the demand for room service is growing. So, what exactly do guests most often want to get right in their room? The unsurpassed leader was the burger, easily and unobtrusively beating the classic club sandwich – hamburgers account for 40% of orders.

But also, after surveying hundreds of hotels, Hotels.com found that there is also a switch to plant-based food. More than 55% of hotels reported an increase in vegan food orders, more than vegetarian or lactose-free.

The study found that 30% of travelers spend at least €116 on room service per night, and the hottest hours for room service are between 7pm and 8pm.

For the most luxurious hotels, no request is overly unusual. Hotels.com has compiled a list of places where guests can indulge in weird and funny room service requests (very often, of course, to the detriment of their wallets). Get ready to be amazed by the abundance of unusual services:

  1. For €1,356 at London’s The Milestone Hotel, guests can enjoy a private concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in their room.
  2. Private canoes: In-room dining at the InterContinental Bora Bora can be delivered to the deck of your overwater villa in a traditional canoe.
  3. Room service especially for children. Ashford Castle in Mayo, Ireland, offers guests a Lego service where both children and adults can choose from a set of building blocks that will be delivered to their room on a silver tray.
  4. At The Plaza Hotel in New York, they often order ice cream shown in the movie Home Alone 2: 16 scoops of ice cream with various toppings worth €277.
  5. The Post Oak Hotel in Houston, Texas is offering a €1,482 Black Gold Burger, which features 16 ounces of Wagyu beef, grilled foie gras and black truffle in a black brioche bun with caviar and 24 carat gold.

*Room-service in a hotel is room service. Most often this involves the delivery of food and drinks to the rooms themselves, but high-level hotels include other services, for example, calling a hairdresser and makeup artist, receiving a massage therapist in the room, and delivering the latest press.
