Greek border guards and army “blocked” a large number of illegal immigrants at the border in Evros

Greek border guards and army at the moment blocking a large number of illegal immigrants who are on the islands of the Evros River in Turkey and want to get to Greece.

Apparently, Erdogan, having resumed his duties as the President of Turkey, immediately proceeded with the deportation of illegal immigrants to Greece, promised to the electorate.

Ankara wants to take advantage of the falling water level on the river, as it is an opportunity to “push” as many illegal immigrants into Greek territory as possible.

In particular, speaking on Wednesday morning (7/6) to ERT, Orestiada public broadcaster reporter Dimitris Stamatakis said that “In connection with the end of the rains in the region, the flows of migrants are increasing. What is new is that they go and choose the nameless islands in the Evros River, and from there most of them try to move to the mainland in an organized way.” The journalist also said that Minister for the Protection of Citizens Charalambos Lalousis will be at the headquarters of the Orestiada police today, who will hold talks with employees.

“Perhaps this is a positive coincidence, we are lucky that he is in this position, because until recently he was the head of the GES. He served in the 16th division in Didymoteicho and in the 12th division in Alexandroupoli,” the reporter said. “He knows the problem of migration very well, because the army is the second force in the region after the Greek police and border guards who are trying to keep our borders closed.

Charalambos Lalousis will hold talks with police representatives in the area. We will be able to see how this situation, which is now becoming commonplace, is being resolved, that is, people go to certain islands, whether they are Greeks or Turks.

The Turks prefer to send them to the Greek islands so that the Greek authorities can then rescue them. Therefore, we will take this matter up with the police directors of Alexandroupolis and Orestiada. What do they offer, what new facts have appeared in order to understand exactly how this situation will be resolved,” he added.

“But since then, what I can say with certainty […]is that just on the opposite side, on the Turkish side, there is a large activity of migrants. As I said at the beginning of the interview, weather conditions contribute to this. What do migrants want? Safe passage across the river, which now has no rapids, and secondly, as soon as they get into Greek territory, they will start walking, walking and getting to major urban centers through the mountains of Thrace. Through the mountains, walking day and night, to be able to hide from the police, that is, hide in the mountains and reach major urban centers, and this is facilitated by the current weather conditions”he added.

As “Athenian News” reported earlier, from the beginning of the month, by the above route, over 220 peoplewho call themselves Syrian refugees. The violators of the border do not have any documents.

Experts fear that the current situation may turn into an analogue of the crisis March 2020when on the border of Greece and Turkey, in Castagna areagathered several thousand people who tried to break through the border of Greece.

Spring 2020 Crisis ended because of the heat coronavirus pandemicbut the refugees and migrants in Turkey have not gone away, creating pressure both on the Turkish economy, which is now suffering serious problems, and on the mood of the country’s population, who are already rather tired of such a neighborhood.

Judging by the above, Erdogan decided once again to “milk” the European Union in order to receive money for the maintenance of refugees, and Greece is the best target for this.
