Several dozen children seized from families of Ukrainian refugees in European countries

The Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine reported dozens of cases of removal of children from families of Ukrainian refugees in Europe.

Our publication talked about how refugees from Ukraine are deprived of parental rights and their children are taken away from them, and these are not isolated cases. VR Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets spoke about this during a press conference:

“There are such facts, we have now recorded several dozen of them. What is the problem – that, according to European law, the official guardian in Ukraine is not the official guardian on the territory EU. Another thing is when some countries understand the situation Ukrainians are in and do not raise this issue, or simply help Ukrainians survive.”

The Ombudsman acknowledged the existence of similar problems in some European countries:

“I will say this: in our opinion, there are cases of violations of the rights of citizens of Ukraine. And I first of all turn to my partners-ombudsmen of these countries. We even worked out a separate legal document with one country that allows our common groups to intervene in this situation.”

Lubinets also said that the Ukrainian side had achieved the most important thing – that they stopped physically taking away children from families of Ukrainian citizens, he quotes edition “A country”:

“We have some facts about the already seized Ukrainian children, we are now working on them. And we are now working on the issue to help these children, together with their parents, simply return to the territory of Ukraine.”
