Summer is coming: what not to do with sunburn

Summer is coming soon, and on the beach, our body, which has turned pale over the winter, will actively “absorb” the sun’s rays. A few strict nos to sunburn skincare, if that’s the case, from the competent experts.

Did you get sunburnt on the first day? Not surprisingly, sunbathing should be taken in doses, especially at the beginning of the season. Indeed, for some, literally 15-20 minutes is enough for the skin to turn red. Do not rush to apply traditional measures to alleviate the condition – many of them only worsen the situation.

Sour cream or kefir

Friends vying with each other sympathize and advise to spread kefir or sour cream on burnt skin? And to do this, once again repeat dermatologists, should not be. All substances with fats (sour cream, petroleum jelly, sunflower oil, glycerin, cosmetic cream) can only harm. Their oily base forms a film that impedes air circulation and prevents hot skin from dissipating heat. It will only get easier for a while, and then the situation will worsen. In addition, the bacteria that make up fermented milk products are quite capable of provoking an infection.

Cream or vodka

Neither one nor the other. However, the ban applies to non-specialized creams. When caring for burned skin, both oils (see sour cream) and alcohol lotions with fragrances in the composition are harmful – they dry the skin. For the same reason, you can not use vodka – another fairly popular folk remedy in everyday life. But in this case, alcohol will not help. The ideal option is specialized post-burn remedies with panthenol and vitamin E.

Is it possible to wipe the skin with ice

If you wipe your sun-damaged skin with ice cubes, you can complicate the situation: the cold slows down blood circulation and skin regeneration. You can stand for 15 minutes under a cool, but not icy (!) Shower. Lotions help to relieve pain. Brew a soothing herbal tea (such as chamomile), let it cool, and dampen a bandage or piece of cloth to size. Aloe pulp helps well – it’s great if you have a healing plant at home.

Can’t cause dehydration

Between two to three days after a mild burn and seven days after a severe burn, the body needs fluids. Coffee and alcohol, carbonated drinks and tea, and even fruit juices can provoke dehydration – all of these drinks remove water from the body. After a skin burn, you need to drink more, up to three liters per day. Water is the best for this. You can drink milk: the sodium contained in it retains fluid. It is better to refrain from foods high in sugar and salt, especially those canned in marinade, as well as baked goods and chips. But it is useful to include fresh cucumbers, pomegranates, tomatoes in the diet – they will help the skin recover.

Bath procedures

Handle the skin during hygiene procedures should be especially delicate. No washcloths or scrubs! Refrain from shaving, and soap containing alkali is prohibited, it will break the natural protective film. After showering or bathing, gently pat your wet skin dry without rubbing it with a towel.

What if blisters…

With a severe burn, blisters may appear on the skin. In no case should they be pierced – you can bring an infection, and the healing process will be delayed. If the blister is pierced by accident, treat the wound with chlorhexidine and cover with a bandage.

Some people love the process of removing peeling skin, but you should not do this. By removing the dead epidermis, you can “grab” the living one, and then bring the infection into the microwounds. In addition, ugly scars may remain.

Simple Rules

Tanned skin is attractive, it’s hard to argue with that. But do not forget about the dangers of sunburn: early aging of the skin and the possible appearance of malignant tumors. However, it is not difficult to prevent such unpleasant consequences, you just need to follow simple rules:

  • do not go out into the open sun between 12:00 and 15:00;
  • do not ignore sunscreen, apply it 15-20 minutes before sun exposure;
  • cover your head with a hat, bandana or cap when tanning;
  • for the face, use a cream with an increased SPF factor;
  • renew the layer of cream on the skin after each bath;
  • after sunbathing, take a shower and apply a moisturizer.
