General strike in Greece on March 8

Tomorrow, Wednesday March 8th, there will be a 24-hour general strike in Greece, in solidarity with the railway workers and the tragedy of the train collision in Tempi. It will be attended by workers from the public and private sectors, public transport, ports, schools and hospitals.

In a statement, the workers’ union ΟΑΣΑ calls on the workers participate at a rally at 13:00 on Syntagma Square.

The Coordinating Committee for the Fight for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities stated:

“This crime will not be forgotten, we will be the voice of all the dead! Everyone on Wednesday to the big strike rally of anger and struggle at 12:30 at the Propylaea!”.

The Ministry of Labor Workers’ Association is calling for the strike, expressing “its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the unspeakable tragedy at Tempi, wishes a speedy recovery to the injured” and calls on the government to provide all possible support to the victims and the families of the victims:

This tragic event clearly shows that public goods such as health care, education, energy, transportation, welfare/social protection must remain public goods. That is why we oppose any privatization policy and any government policy to devalue them.
