Market Pass: where to use, beneficiaries and those who will be left without benefits

“Not far off” is the launch of a new state aid – the digital product card “MarketPass”, which is expected to premiere on February 20.

There is a countdown to the launch of MarketPass, a card that the government says will be a “breather” for households in the midst of rising grocery prices in supermarkets. It will “return” to the owner 10% of the monthly spending in the sector, up to the maximum provided for each group.

MarketPass can be used in stores:

  • Grocery, supermarkets.
  • Butcher shops.
  • Confectionery
  • Dairy stores.
  • Bakeries.
  • Various food stores.

According to the government, the following persons are entitled to use MarketPass:

  1. Married with 2 children or single-parent family with 3 children: the maximum amount of subsidized monthly purchases is 520 euros and the monthly subsidy is 52 euros and 312 euros per semester (6 months).
  2. Married beneficiary with 1 child or for a family with one parent and 2 children: the maximum subsidized amount of purchases is 420 euros per month, so the monthly subsidy will be 42 euros, of which 252 euros per semester.
  3. Married without children or single-parent families with 1 child: the upper limit of subsidized purchases is set at 320 euros per month, and the monthly subsidy is set at 32 euros or 192 euros per semester.
  4. Singles: The maximum amount of subsidized monthly purchases is set at €220 per month and therefore the Market Pass amount is €22 per month or €132 per semester.

The above amounts are valid when using an intangible digital card and NFC system on your mobile phone. In case of choice deposit (when the amount is transferred to your bank account), the subsidy is reduced by 20% (i.e. you will receive 80% of the amounts indicated for each category of persons). Thus the maximum amount of cashwhich will be provided to a group of married persons with 2 children, or an incomplete family with 3 children, is 249.6 euros.

  1. Married with 2 children or single-parent family with 3 children: 249.6 euros.
  2. Married beneficiary with 1 child or for a family with one parent and 2 children: 201.6 euros.
  3. Married without children or single-parent family with 1 child: 153.6 euros.
  4. Singles: 105.6 euros per semester.

However, unfortunately, some citizens will not be able to join the government assistance program. In particular, “outside” the Market Pass will remain:

  • Individuals who are listed on the 2021 Individual Tax Return as dependents of the responsible person in accordance with Article 11 of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Individuals who declared in their 2021 personal income tax return that they are providing (φιλοξενούνται) their living space (to anyone or even their adult children).
  • Individuals subject to the luxury tax in the 2021 tax year.
  • Foreign tax residents.
  • Individuals who have not filed their income tax return for the 2021 tax year before 12/31/2022.
