Erdogan accuses Greece of having structures for refugees resembling ‘Nazi concentration camps’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made new provocative statements against our country, accusing Greece of atrocities and torture against Muslim immigrants.

He noted in his speech: “The negative impact of waves of hatred and resentment due to their treatment of Muslims continues right next to us. The attitude of our neighboring country in the west, Greece, towards immigrants has now reached the point of cruelty. They pierce immigrants’ inflatable boats and drown them in the sea, torture them, strip them, push them to Turkey and add something new every day. In fact, Western countries do not show a noticeable reaction to these atrocities of spoiled Greece.

Erdogan also compared the refugee camps along the border with Turkey to “Nazi concentration camps”:

“With the exception of some statements that have been made to date, we have not seen any efforts to prevent this atrocity and protect the oppressed among women and children. We are all deeply saddened by the continued indifference to the shameful images we face in the Nazi concentration camp-like refugee structures along the border.”

In 2020, 130 million euros were allocated for the construction three camps of the closed (prison) type to accommodate migrants on the Greek islands of Samos, Leros and Kos. Later, several more similar camps were built along the border of Greece and Turkey. The Greek authorities are extremely reluctant to talk about these camps, while journalists are not allowed into them. On November 24, the European Commission allocated 1.9 billion euros to Greece. If so far Greece has received more than €2.5-3 billion, this time an additional €1.9 billion will be paid.

As you know, one of the main routes of illegal migration from the countries of the Middle East and Africa to the European Union passes through Greece. The New Democracy government, which came to power in 2019, said it would tackle the problem of overcrowded migrant camps by accelerating the deportation of those who were denied refugee status, accelerating the adaptation of those who were granted refugee status, strengthening border security, and establishing high-level refugee camps. level of security, which the opposition called concentration camps.

This is one of the largest sums allocated to solve this problem in recent years. And it is not yet known where and how they will be spent.
