Halkidiki: a search is underway for a 28-year-old boy. Incredible like the sea in seconds "swallowed up" three guys

From the very early morning, almost from dawn, the search continued at sea and on land for a 28-year-old young foreigner who disappeared in the Halkidiki region.

The guy, along with two of his friends, was having fun on the beach on Saturday night after a birthday party.

It was on the beach of Mitis, Poseidi, Chalkidiki (Μύτη, στο Ποσείδι Χαλκιδικής), in a place that many locals characterize as very dangerous for swimming. There are undercurrents that quickly carry bathers to the open sea, even if the weather is fine.

One of the three, Vasil, was saved thanks to the fact that he was seen by a surfer, who, fortunately, was nearby. He approached the place where the guy was, and although he could not help him, he said to wait – help would come soon. Indeed, the surfer alerted the Coast Guard and told them Vasil’s exact location, so he was rescued.

Vasil, 25, was first taken to the fishing shelter of Nea Skioni and then to Polygyros hospital for a medical examination and, if necessary, treatment.

The second, Ivan, was rescued yesterday. He spent 18 hours at sea thanks to the ball he grabbed. A third diver has gone missing and the search continues iefimerida.gr. The 30-year-old foreigner was found at sea by a search helicopter, about 18 hours later, 14 miles from Nea Skioni and picked up by a cargo ship involved in the search.

The young man was first taken to the Kassandra Health Center and then to the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki. He reported that when the friends decided to swim, the sea was calm. However, literally within a couple of minutes the weather changed dramatically, a strong wind blew and waves rose.

The search for foreign citizens was carried out by the Search and Rescue Center, two Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats, seven ships and an Air Force helicopter.

The third guy is also being looked for on land, in the Poseidi area. A Coast Guard patrol car and foot units of the rescue team search the coast. Volunteers Ο.Φ.Κ.Α.Θ are participating in the rescue operation.
