The Governor of Attica, Georgios Patoulis, made an impressive statement about the observance of traffic rules by drivers in Attica.
After the installation of a new system of registration of offenses on the waterfront of the Athenian Riviera, 250-300 violations of the red traffic light per day were recorded at one of the traffic lights. Prior to the installation of the recorder, this number was much higher, reaching 800 violations per day.
The registrar was “discovered” by drivers, which led to a decrease in violations, but still, about 300 passages to a prohibiting traffic light still occur. Thus, according to the governor, “the situation has improved.”
According to Athens News, the operation of the first system for detecting traffic violations (running a red light) began with Poseidonos Avenue, as this is a busy highway, where, according to the regional traffic control center and the Greek police, a large number of violations are observed.
G. Patulis, the governor of the region, said: “The cameras have been installed and are already working. Road safety above all”.
The main causes of traffic accidents:
- Over speed.
- Driving through a traffic light.
- Drunk driving.
- Driver negligence.
- Not wearing seat belts/driving without a helmet.
- Traffic in the opposite lane.
- Using a mobile phone while driving.
- Violation of road signs.
