An elderly woman was “cleaned” for 77,000 euros under the pretext of disinfection due to … coronavirus

More than 77 thousand euros were stolen from an elderly woman by a 52-year-old fraudster who came to her house under the pretext of allegedly disinfecting due to the coronavirus.

At noon last Friday, May 6, posing as a municipal employee, the attacker entered the house of an 80-year-old resident of Agios Mamantas (Chalkidiki). The offender persuaded the elderly woman to show her where the money and other valuables were hidden in order to “treat them with a special solution.”

The thief managed, without realizing it, to take possession of 77,400 euros in cash and jewelry that were in the house, and then “evaporated” with the help of an unidentified person – an accomplice who was waiting for her in the car. When the victim realized that it was a scam, she contacted the Nea Moudania police station, reporting the incident.

As a result of the investigation, it was possible to establish the identity of the perpetrator (a resident of a gypsy settlement in Imatija), but it was not possible to find out her whereabouts.

The materials of the case have been transferred to the prosecutor’s office of Polygyros, while investigative actions are ongoing both against the fraudster (and her possible involvement in similar acts) and against her accomplice.
