The facts of the presence of Russian conscripts in Ukraine have been revealed. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Main Military Prosecutor’s Office would find out why they were there.
Peskov emphasizes that Vladimir Putin was informed about the implementation of his instructions to exclude the involvement of conscripts to participate in a special operation in Ukraine. On behalf of the president, all materials for assessing the situation and bringing to justice officials guilty of failure to comply with the decree were sent to the prosecutor’s office, writes Gazeta.ru. Dmitry Peskov said:
“Before the start of the special operation, on the instructions of the President of Russia, Supreme Commander Vladimir Putin, each of the commanders of the units of the RF Armed Forces was instructed to categorically exclude the involvement of conscripts to perform any tasks on the territory of Ukraine. President Putin was informed about the implementation of this instruction.
After receiving information about the participation of Russian conscripts in the invasion of Ukraine, at the direction of Putin, all materials for verification and legal assessment were sent to the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation. The guilty will be punished.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the presence of Russian conscripts in Ukraine:
“Unfortunately, several facts of the presence of conscripts in the units of the Russian armed forces involved in the conduct of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine were discovered.”
The department confirmed that some of them were captured. However, the Ministry of Defense does not provide data on the number of conscripts. Earlier, it reported that sending conscripts to war was excluded. By law, they can be sent to the combat zone no earlier than four months after the start of military service.
