Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas clarified the electricity and gas subsidies.
With regard to natural gas, it was noted that the bills that will come from now on refer to consumption in November-December. In October and November, the discount will be 15%, and from December it will increase to 40%.
“We are trying to cover most of the costs incurred as a result of the rise in electricity prices,” the Minister of Environment and Energy said in an interview with SKAI. “The goal is to cover 80% of the burden of energy costs so that the average household does not see a maximum increase of more than 15-20%.”
“All of these criteria relate to the protection of citizens who are really in need, with very low incomes,” he said. “We have created a five-digit emergency number 15902.”
The telephone line is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm. “It can be used by households that really cannot pay their electricity bills and submit a request to reconnect to the electricity grid,” said Costas Skrekas.
Costas Skrekas also explained that “any support for companies must first go through the European Competition Commission to get approval, because otherwise it is illegal. Our goal is to support all businesses using low, medium or high voltage. ”
The de-escalation of gas prices, according to the minister, will last until Easter: “We may even have another increase in gas prices, which will lead to a drop in electricity prices.”
