A local resident of Patras was very happy when he received an SMS from TEVA with an invitation to receive a food ration. However, what he found in the pork bag made him disgusted and surprised.
In particular, an indictment was filed yesterday with the prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance from the recipient of the food aid program TEBA, as he claims that he found an insect in the package of chilled meat he received.
The applicant, whose details are available in the newspaper “Peloponnisos”, which reported on the egregious case, received food rations and household goods from the Cultural Association (Εκπολιτιστικού Συλλόγου Ζαρουχλεϊκών) on 8 December.
On the 17th, his son, opening the hermetically sealed pork package, saw a beetle (a cockroach, according to the applicant). A photo of the abomination was attached. “Unfortunately, this is unacceptable for a civilized country, there is no control! I intend to complain to the regional authorities and the city municipality, ”said the city dweller.
According to the information on the TEVA social assistance program, all products are usually carefully screened (spot checks) as they arrive and are distributed through the municipality.
The issuance of rations with fresh products takes place on the day specified in the SMS. Products with broken packaging or expired products are not allowed to be issued to citizens.
Following the citizen’s complaint, a legal procedure was initiated. Already in Elis and Etholoacarnania, the distribution of rations was completed after rigorous checks and in compliance with all product quality standards.
As noted, if the recipient of TEVA assistance (usually those citizens who receive EEE / KEA) detects any deviations in the products they receive, then he can contact the competent services of the region or municipalities to take appropriate action. There is also a telephone line for TEBA beneficiaries.
