Shocking footage of the B1 bus from Piraeus to Voula drowning under a bridge spread throughout the Greek media. Fortunately, none of the passengers were injured, except for wet clothes and damaged shoes.
This afternoon, residents of the Attica metropolitan area received an emergency message from the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection – service 112, which warns of the danger of heavy downpours that have brought cyclone Ballos into the metropolitan area.
The B1 bus fell into a water trap as it passed under a bridge near Stavros Niarchos Center. The driver of the stuck bus released the passengers who managed to leave the vehicle while the water was not too deep.

The photo shows that after a while the bus disappeared under water, which means that passengers could drown there.

The Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection informed the citizens that extreme weather events will affect the area: there is a risk of flooding of certain areas, falling trees and other troubles.
A tropical downpour lasting more than 7 hours brought up to 130 millimeters of precipitation, which led to flooding of areas located in the lowlands.
In New Philadelphia, teachers evacuated children from desks laid out in the school’s courtyard.
Bad weather “hit” the parliament building
Cyclone “Ballos” caused problems in the parliament building. At noon, water hit the inner peristyle in the exhibition area dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the 1821 revolution, and a piece of marble fell on the outside of the building, next to the entrance from Amalias Street.
Water flooded the Cultural Center “GREEK WORLD”.
A large-scale catastrophe took place in the cultural center “HELLEN’S WORLD” of the “Greek World” foundation. The first floor, where the exposition of the museum, reception rooms, make-up rooms of the theater, offices, as well as two basements of the GREEK WORLD, where the checkpoint substation is located, are flooded. Cars, electromechanical equipment, costumes and decorations of the theater of the cultural center were also damaged.
As it became known, the employees of the fund safely evacuated museum visitors and cars, while trying to reduce large-scale destruction and pump out water in conditions of constant power outages.

Tomorrow all schools in Attica will be closed “for reasons of safety for the safety of students and because of the difficulties of movement that may arise due to bad weather”, as stated in the decision of the Governor G. Patulis.
