The new measures are a fait accompli, and the unvaccinated will have to travel with a pretty decent amount of money in their pockets to pay left and right. And also do not forget about fines, because you will need to clearly know what is allowed and to whom.
The new measures will take effect on 13 September, Greek Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias announced. Obviously, the measures pursue a specific goal – to force people to be vaccinated. Everyone, without exception. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the unvaccinated.
What is not questionable is the need for vaccination. Another big question is whether these measures will be punitive. The main question is whether citizens who have doubts or have a negative attitude to vaccination will change their decision after the introduction of new measures and whether they will go to get an injection. The answer is expected to be given in the coming months.
However, the announcement of the new measures raises a number of questions.
1) Are they a recommendation from the Committee on Infectious Diseases? Did they suggest specific measures for the vaccinated or not?
2) Why is it possible to go to the theater or cinema with an express test for 10 euros, but not to go to a cafe or restaurant?
3) Why should food service and tourism workers, teachers and professors take two tests a week, and the police and the military one test a week?
4) Can the unvaccinated finally go to church? And in what order? No special mention of churches is made in the new measures.
5) Why are the unvaccinated excluded from the free EODY rapid tests? Tests are a means of epidemiological surveillance.
6) What is the logic behind minors paying 10 euros to take a self-test in a private unit for travel by bus, train, ferry or plane? Wouldn’t two self-tests be enough for them to go to school?
7) How were students suddenly forced to take additional tests? Why should they pay 80 euros a month for two rapid tests, when the new measures do not particularly target the most vulnerable, the elderly …
In general, according to ieidiseis.gr, these are probably purely rhetorical questions.
