Taxi driver robbed passengers for 17,500 euros

Syntagma Security Department investigated six more cases of fraud against elderly taxi customers by a 25-year-old driver.

It is noted that a case has been initiated against the taxi driver who was arrested in March last year for theft, embezzlement and computer fraud against elderly passengers.

According to Greek law enforcement agencies, the accused hung out in the evening at hospitals and public transport stops, hunting for elderly passengers.

He put mostly elderly people in the car, and after the trip was over, he offered them to pay with a bank card instead of cash. For the transaction, he used a POS-like device or mobile phone and told his victims to enter their PIN number.

A PIN was stored on the devices he used. The received data (bank card and pin code) later he used to pay for his needs and make purchases.

Investigations identified a total of 15 cases of taxi fraud, which resulted in the defendant’s illegal income of € 17,500, a police source said.
