The trial of the mother of a schoolgirl arrested at Evosmos for refusing to self-test was postponed until April 27. The woman was released from custody on recognizance not to leave.
Among the opponents of self-testing, Shakespearean passions continue to boil. The 49-year-old woman was brought before a prosecutor on Friday following her arrest as part of a preliminary investigation ordered by the head of the Thessaloniki prosecutor’s office in a case of incitement to disobedience. It was opened in connection with publications on social networks in which she spoke out against the self-test of schoolchildren, urging parents not to send their children to school.
When the rebel left the courtroom, with the Greek flag on her shoulders, the group of people who remained to support her greeted her with applause, singing the national anthem.
The woman thanked everyone who supported her in the struggle. “I am not doing anything, but I will be a mother,” she said.
“The case was postponed until April 27 this year, at the request of the defense, so that the only prosecution witness would arrive to clarify the charge and the action attributed to my client,” said Fotis Babanis, the woman’s lawyer.
When asked who is the prosecution’s witness, Mr. Babanis replied that these are personal data, and he could not speak about the case materials.

Conflict flared up in the morning before classes, when the schoolgirl’s mother filed a lawsuit against the gymnasium administration, claiming that she was not obliged by law to self-test her child in order for him to attend the lesson, and an oral order from the prosecutor for this, they say, was not enough. She was supported by the students, who wrapped them in chains and locked the entrance to the lyceum, not allowing them to enter the educational institution. According to the protesters, they protested against the mandatory self-examination in schools: “it is unconstitutional to force someone to undergo any medical procedure.”
A total of 6 out of 400 children did not pass the self-test.
