Infected committed theft in the supermarket

In Thessaloniki, police arrested two women who are accused of systematic theft in a supermarket located in the Efkarpia region.

According to a law enforcement investigation, the 32-year-old foreign woman, who was detained with her accomplice, had a confirmed case of coronavirus and was supposed to be under house arrest. As a result, she was fined 5,000 euros for violating quarantine. Cases of theft, for which the court will issue a verdict, will be considered separately.

In Greece, people who are caught stealing in a supermarket are punished in different ways. Sometimes they are limited to a fine, and sometimes they are even sentenced to prison.

An unprecedented incident took place in Patras. The public was outraged by the court’s decision made to the thief. In particular, the court handed down a severe sentence to a mother who stole food in a supermarket in the amount of … 30 euros, who went to the crime to feed her hungry child!

The defendant was reportedly sentenced to four months in prison for stealing food in the amount of € 30. This event, which simply did not fit into my head, caused heated debate and an appeal to lawyers and attorneys in order to overturn the sentence of the unfortunate mother.

And the story of a resident of the city of Patras, the mother of a small child, is as follows: overnight she found herself unemployed and abandoned by her husband. Trying to survive alone, without sources of income, the unfortunate woman decided to ask for help from the public, since she could no longer live in hunger and poverty. The mother went out into the street with the baby in her arms and took up a position at the supermarket, hoping for alms.

After many hours of fruitless standing outside the supermarket in the center of Patras, a desperate woman decided to go to the store. A few minutes later, when she left, the alarm went off. A supermarket security guard searched her bag and found the stolen products: pasta, butter, cookies, for only 30 euros.

The woman threw herself at the feet of the shop manager who came up and, with tears in her eyes, begged him not to punish her. But the police were called. As a result, the young woman was taken to the prosecutor’s office. And since she was “caught red-handed,” the trial took place immediately. As a result, the court found the woman guilty and delivered a sentence: a prison term of 4 months.
