The Ministry of Finance has activated a digital platform for first (main) homeowners for vulnerable households unable to pay their mortgages, in accordance with the new law 4738/2020 on debt settlement and second chances.
The aforementioned law contains a number of favorable conditions for households, such as:
Out-of-court debt settlement up to 240 payments to the state and up to 420 payments to financial institutions, as well as
subsidizing the first housing loans of vulnerable households for 5 years to those who pay off their debts. The online platform allows borrowers with severe financial weakness to obtain appropriate confirmation that they are indeed vulnerable households.
The have-nots can benefit from the safeguards of Law 4738/2020, i.e. write off all your debts and take a second save option to avoid being auctioned off.
The platform was developed by the special secretariat for private debt management (Ειδική Γραμματεία Διαχείρισης Ιδιωτικού Χρέους) of the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Digital Governance and Facilitation and the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems of the Ministry.
For more information on the institutional structure and options for managing their debt, citizens can contact one of the 50 Borrower Information and Support Centers and the Special Secretariat for Private Debt Management offices across the country by appointment at 213.212.57.30.
