Turkey’s complaint against Greece sent to UN

Turkey has complained about Greece to the UN, accusing Athens of violating the agreements that concern the inadmissibility of the militarization of islands in the eastern Aegean Sea, Anadolu reported today.

Feridun Sinirlioglu, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, sent a complaint to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, which says:

“Once again, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Athens did not fulfill the obligations arising from the agreements on the ban on the deployment of weapons on the islands in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas,” the document says. – The ban on the militarization of the islands is prescribed by the Lausanne Peace Treaty of 1923 and the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947. The actions of the Greek side represent a real and serious threat to the security of Turkey. “

The Turkish Permanent Representative also stressed in his message:

“Any escalation of tension due to the violation by the Greek side of the terms of international agreements will affect peace and security in the region. Ankara has repeatedly reported violations in the Greek islands through diplomatic channels. If Athens does not return to its obligations, it will lose the right to put forward other requirements based on the letter of the above documents, including the right to determine sovereign maritime jurisdiction. “

In conclusion, Sinirlioglu noted that, proceeding from the principle of good-neighborly relations and cooperation, Ankara calls on Greece to restore the status of demilitarized islands.
