Independent Revenue Agency customs auditors discovered and seized a large quantity of cocaine from a container of bananas.
Inspectors, using information from the coast guard, inspected the container that arrived at the port of Piraeus. It contained bananas brought from Ecuador. The final destination was Thessaloniki.
AADE Customs officers used a special X-ray machine and a specially trained drug detection dog. Thus, 91.5 kg of cocaine worth 4.1 million euros were found in a container with bananas. The drugs were in 80 packages.
This joint operation took place within the framework of interdepartmental cooperation to combat drug trafficking and based on the use of information Λ.).
A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the administration of the central port of Piraeus, and a sample of the seized drug was taken for examination.
