On Saturday night, 12/06, unknown persons turned the chapel of Agios Mandilios in Nigrit (Serres) into a bar.
On Sunday morning, the deputy mayor of the municipality’s Office of Civil Protection and Cleaning was alerted to the incident and arrived at the scene of the vandalism. The picture of the party caused outrage: jars and bottles of alcohol and drinks, plastic disposable glasses, cigarette butts, used napkins and more were scattered everywhere, as can be seen in the photographs published by nfonews24. Young people had fun until the morning, drinking drinks and turning on loud music.
The municipality’s Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with the Nigrita Fire Department and citizen volunteers, has begun to clean up the area surrounding the temple.
“By what right did these“ over-age kids ”have such unrestrained fun here? Indifference? Thoughtlessness? Nothing justifies the desecration of this sacred site, a beautiful church that is held in high esteem by the local people who voluntarily clean and care for it! It is necessary to punish those who do not respect the foundations of society! ” – wrote the deputy mayor in a post.
