The Communist Party of Greece recalled that it has been tapped since 2016

The Greek Communist Party scathingly ridiculed the opposition PASOK and SYRIZA for their attempts to pass a vote of no confidence in the Mitsotakis government, recalling that it was they themselves who had previously voted for laws allowing for “dubious institutional framework” surveillance by ΕΥΠ.

The following message was published on the KKE website: “The chairman of the Social Democratic Party SYRIZA, A. Tsipras, on Wednesday, January 25, submitted to the plenary session of the Parliament a proposal for a vote of no confidence in the government because of the scandal with wiretapping of politicians. So SYRIZA, together with the right-wing government party ND, are trying to stage another miserable spectacle of confrontation shortly before the elections.

Both parties hide the fact that there is a legal framework for wiretapping, formulated jointly with the social democratic party PASOK in the adoption of laws, European directives and international agreements. In addition, entering into a senseless confrontation on the eve of the elections, they are trying to hide behind all this fuss their common program, the very anti-people policy that is dictated by the strategic choice of capital both on domestic and foreign policy issues. A clear example is their common position on the issue of the imperialist war in Ukraine, where they all welcome the participation of the country in the imperialist war on the side of the US, NATO and EUa fact condemned by the KKE.

Participating in parliamentary debates KKE parliamentary representative Thanasis Pafilis noted that we are talking about “artificial, misleading and hypocritical” confrontation. According to him, they accuse each other of eavesdropping, but no one talks about the ugly EU institutional framework that ND, PASOK and SYRIZA together voted for, about the reactionary institutional framework on the basis of which everyone is bugged, and no one is an exception.

He further stressed that none of the ND and SYRIZA parties mentioned the statements made before the Commission of Inquiry by the former commander of the National Intelligence Service (ΕΥΠ), who admitted that “the KKE has been under surveillance since 2016”, i.e. both during the reign of the ND, and earlier, under the government of SYRIZA. However, instead of opening an investigation, an attempt was made to close the case because both sides were at fault.

T. Pafilis made it clear that the KKE would vote for a vote of no confidence in the government, noting that “we expressed the vote of no confidence from the very beginning, in the streets, participating in the struggle of the trade unions, the popular movement, who are fighting for the abolition of this policy. But we also express a vote of no confidence in the SYRIZA party, even if it is in opposition. Because the confrontation that is taking place here over wiretapping is artificial, misleading and hypocritical, since all of them, taken together, have created a dubious institutional framework.

He also emphasized that, despite the tricks of ND and SYRIZA, “the people see and draw conclusions, and gradually begin to understand the rottenness of your system.” And he added: “That is why a strong KKE is needed both in elections and in the mass popular movement, because the people can achieve something only when there is a strong KKE. When it is weak, the people lose.”.
