Britain urges Kyiv to prevent Challenger tanks from hitting Russians

The British Armed Forces are developing plans in the event of the threat of Challenger 2 tanks falling into the hands of the Russian military in Ukraine.

As informs The Sun, citing a source close to the defense department, in Britain fears that Russian specialists will have access to samples of British-made composite armor used in the Challenger 2 design, the composition of which remains secret.

The interlocutor of the publication claims that Russian forces will “seek to knock out and capture one of the Challenger 2 tanks,” giving experts the opportunity to study it in detail. In this regard, the British military leadership is discussing with Ukrainian colleagues the procedure for evacuating transferred equipment from the battlefield in critical situations. The Sun source says:

“The worst case scenario is to destroy the tank when the front line collapses and friendly troops retreat. So the first step is to train the operations planners to work with them, ensuring that the Challenger 2 will not be used in scenarios that suggest a real possibility of a front collapse. The second step is to make so that, on a tactical level, the Ukrainians are able to evacuate tanks while under fire. They definitely have the courage to do so.”

Alternative options are also being considered, including, for example, the involvement of private military contractors to evacuate wrecked Western tanks.

As you know, on January 14, Great Britain was the first to announce that it would transfer main battle tanks to Kyiv. By the end of March, 14 Challenger 2 tanks of the Kingdom’s Armed Forces are planned to be sent to Ukraine.
