Pocketed 1,000,000 euros by selling souvlaki

The scale of tax evasion uncovered by AΑΑΔΕ auditors at a catering establishment that sold grilled meats and souvlaki is simply unimaginable.

The inspectors revealed that checks for a total of 1.1 million euros were not issued in a barbecue house located in the central square of Chania! The owner of the business, which has been operating for only five years, did not provide receipts for orders, declared non-existent losses, and from the first day the catering company operated without using the electronic tax mechanism

In particular, the auditors examined tax data for 2018, 2019 and 2020 and found the following:

First, zero gross income and cumulative losses of more than EUR 90,000 have been generated from these filings for these three financial years.

Secondly, having visited the company, the auditors of ΑΑΔΕ discovered that the company has been operating without the use of an electronic tax mechanism from the first day of its work.

Thirdly, the data of digital order platforms were entered into a special algorithm for processing and comparison with issued receipts. It turned out that a total of 137,000 orders were not issued receipts (checks), for a total amount of 1.1 million euros, which corresponds to a VAT of 143,000 euros.

In addition to the fines and surcharges already imposed on the company, auditors continue to investigate the “clever” activities of the accounting department of the public catering enterprise.
