The Hellenic Air Force received the first two upgraded F-16 Viper fighters out of an order of 83 at the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (EAV) site in Tanagra, northwest of Athens. The Vipers’ arrival ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos.
The first two Vipers will be used as pilot trainers for the Hellenic Air Force, while EAV ramps up production to deliver at least six more aircraft by the end of the year.

Lockheed Martin and Hellenic Aviation Industry (EAV) jointly delivered the first two F-16 Viper fighters to the Hellenic Air Force on Monday. These aircraft will return to the Air Force with fully modernized capabilities, which will strengthen the national security of Greece.

The F-16V versions of the HAF will be among the most advanced F-16s in Europe, allowing the Hellenic Air Force to successfully counter emerging threats in the region and operate as part of allied missions around the world.
According to the military website Armyvoice.gr the main systems upgraded under the program include:
- AESA APG-83 Radar
- New Modular Mission Computer (MMC-7000AH), ADT
- New information panel and display screens between footwells
- New APX-126 AIFF with 5 modifications
- Integration of SNIPER POD, SASSM and PaveWay II projectiles
- Ability to work in the Link-16 system
F-16 upgrades are being carried out at EAV under the close technical supervision of Lockheed Martin teams located both at EAV and in the US.
