ΔΥΠΑ announces an additional recruitment program for the unemployed 55+

An additional 6,500 jobs in the long-term unemployed over the age of 55 are offered by ΔΥΠΑ. The duration of the program is 12 months with the possibility of extension.

The Board of Directors of the Δημόσιας Υπηρεσίας Απασχόλησης (State Employment Service) approved a significant increase in the number of jobs offered to long-term ((12+ months) unemployed aged 55-67 years as part of a successfully implemented program.

This was announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday. He noted that the amendment to the program provides for the creation of an additional 6,500 positions, and the total budget will be 117 million euros.

The goal of the program, ΔΥΠΑ explains, is to employ people over 55 in full-time positions. The duration of the program is 12 months, with the possibility of its extension for another 12 months. The monthly subsidy is up to 750 euros per month – for wages and social contributions.

The program was launched in September 2017, but until July 2020, its coverage was small – less than one and a half thousand employees. In July 2020, the program was upgraded, and in less than two years, more than 8,000 of the 8,500 vacancies were filled.

The program involves entities from a wide range of public administrations, and a number of public entities have joined it – municipalities, regions, insurance funds, hospitals, social welfare centers and municipal enterprises throughout the country.
