Off the coast of Turkey, they started laying a 170-kilometer gas pipeline along the bottom of the Black Sea, at a depth of up to 2 km, to deliver blue fuel from the Sakarya field.
The process is expected to take five months, the newspaper reports. Yeni Safak. Pipe laying will be carried out by special vessels “Kastoro-10” and “Kastrone”. The first has already arrived at the Black Sea port of Philos, the second is in the Eastern Mediterranean and is expected in Turkey in June. In total, about 20 vessels and more than 4 thousand people are involved in the work.
The laying of the first pipe was announced on Twitter by Fatih Donmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey:
“Are we ready? There are only a few hours left. The first pipe, through which the Black Sea natural gas will be delivered to land, is descending into the sea.”
The event was also announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Ankara expects to produce the first million cubic meters of gas from the new Black Sea field at the beginning of 2023. According to experts, the level of gas production at the field in the Black Sea off the Turkish coast will reach its peak by 2026. Turkey intends to invest about $10 billion in the development of the field.
Alparslan Bayraktar, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, said earlier in June that the country is ready to become a transit point for Russian gas to be delivered to European markets.
