Chania: two cruise ships docked at the port, over 3,500 people visited the city

The cruising industry in Chania is moving at a promising pace, one might even say, like in pre-pandemic times. From the beginning of the current season to the present day, the number of passengers on the liners has exceeded 32,000 people.

In particular, the “Odyssey of the Seas” today arrived in the port of Souda with 3,109 passengers, most of whom will visit the old city and the Venetian port, the newspaper writes. iefimerida.gr. At the same time, the Azamara cruise ship, with 474 passengers on board, docked at the Venetian port.

More cruise ships expected

As Dimitris Virirakis, President of the Chania Prefecture Port Fund, notes in a social media post, “Cruises in Chania are back to pre-docian levels, with vessel occupancy now double that of last year 2021.” 13 cruise ships are expected to arrive in Chania by the end of June, as well as 13 arrivals in July.

Marine tourism

A cruise on the Greek seas is already a unique experience in itself, one that travelers would want to experience again and again, no matter which itinerary they choose. Be it the cosmopolitan and popular islands, or the islands that “live in the past”, be it the Aegean or the Ionian.

All destinations are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. A cruise is the ideal and most appropriate way to get to know Greece and its islands. Currently, the tourism sector in this area is an important milestone in the economic development of Greece.

Cruise routes are classified by duration:

  • short-term (from several hours to several days);
  • medium-term (from 5 to 13 days);
  • long-term (up to 2 months).

Cabins on sea cruise ships are very diverse in size, interior, set of amenities, which, of course, is reflected in the price.

General classification of cabins:

  • economical (cabins with artificial lighting);
  • standard (with windows);
  • premium (with balconies).

For example, the Royal Caribbean cruise company has adopted its own classification of cabins:

1) deluxe ocean view cabins:

  • R – royal apartments: separate bedroom with double bed, private veranda, shower, usual amenities, living room with sofa, piano, refrigerator, mini-bar, dining room;
  • A – “owners suite”: large bed, private veranda, separate living room with sofa, refrigerator, mini-bar;
  • AA – “royal family suite”: two bedrooms with beds, a living room with a sofa, an individual veranda, a refrigerator, two bathrooms;
  • B – “grand suite”: two beds, an individual veranda, armchairs, a sofa, a refrigerator.
  • C – “superior suite”: two beds, an individual veranda, armchairs, a sofa, a refrigerator;
  • D – deluxe cabin: two beds, private veranda, armchairs, sofa, refrigerator;

2) family cabins with ocean view:

  • FF – large cabins, designed to accommodate 6 people;

3) ocean view cabins: F, H, I – comfortable cabins equipped with two beds, the usual amenities, toilet, TV, telephone;

4) inner cabins: K, L, M, N, O, P, Q – comfortable cabins equipped with two beds, the usual amenities, toilet, TV, telephone.

An important feature of cruise tours is the organization of entertainment on board. Various clubs operate on ships, actors are invited to perform, shows are held, gambling clubs and casinos operate. As a rule, a cruise tour is organized on an all-inclusive basis, this includes meals, use of gyms and equipment, and entertainment. One of the advantages of cruise tours is their visa-free travel. Passengers can stay in ports and make excursions for 48-72 hours without a visa. The biggest disadvantage of cruises is their rather high price. But lately budget cruise companies have appeared.
