Attica intends to fight human trafficking with scientific methods

The Regional Authorities of Attica and the Development Fund have launched a pilot “Distance Learning Program in the field of combating human trafficking”.

Within the framework of the initiatives of the regional governor of the Attica of Georgios Patulis, the corresponding program is implemented in accordance with the cooperation agreement concluded between the Attica region and the national body for the fight against people’s trafficking (εθνικού εισηγητή για την καταπολρίας ανθπων, γ. with the provisions of November 6, 2020.

The program is funded by E.P. “Attica 2014-2020” through the European Social Fund (ευρωπαϊκού κοινωνικού ταμείου, εκτ) and is addressed to the leaders of the competent departments of the Attic region, municipalities and social structures (co -financed at the expense of εκτου του του του quite “Attica 2014 – 2020”), and informs) in.gr.

The course lasts 20 hours and will be carried out through a special distance learning platform on the Internet. This will happen asynchronously so that each trainee can participate in the days and hours that are convenient for them. The trainees will be provided with a manual as well as a relevant bibliography.

On the occasion of the start of accepting applications for participation in the program, the governor of Attica, G. Patoulis, said: “Human trafficking – a serious crime and a gross violation of human rights, which can be characterized as modern form of slavery. The phenomenon affects almost every country (of origin, transit or destination), and sometimes a combination of them. The 2021 National Reference Agency for the Protection of Victims of Trafficking (EMA) report confirms the increased risk of exploitation of women and children in our country.

The criminal phenomenon has reached alarming proportions on an international scale and is developing as form of international organized crime. In the Attica region, we believe that the program will contribute to a more effective response to preventing and combating human trafficking. Through targeted actions such as the implementation of this training course, we are determined to help the government’s work to combat the phenomenon of trafficking in human beings.”

Program Goals

The objectives of the program are to strengthen the skills of trainees to identify potential victims of human trafficking and to contribute to the work of the competent authorities involved in the fight against this phenomenon. The thematic content of the education and training program includes indicative thematic blocks, such as: general information for understanding the phenomenon at the level of use of basic terms, national legislation, the importance of first-level identification, common signs of potential victims, analysis of the three main forms of human trafficking (sexual exploitation, labor exploitation and other forms of exploitation such as begging), etc.
